Ethnographic Research

Background information of the football boot in the history. Through many iterations, football shoes have changed drastically in terms of materials, shapes, colors and so on.

The first pair of football boots had be made from King Henry Vill in England. But it wasn't until 1950 that the first real football shoes were made by Adidas.

Players used shoes on the pitch to play better and to prevent injuries depending on the weather.

Materials : interchangeable screw in studs, rubber and plastic.

In recent years, major brands have tried to make sneakers lighter. The use of woven, fabric, and flywire uppers for the ultimate touch, and try to incorporate a chip inside the shoe.

Meanwhile, major brands develop special football boots for their endorsers. (Adidas - Lionel Messi) to make them better in the game.

Observation research
Football boots have changed in recent years and have brought a lot of help to professional players. I always believe that every generation of football shoes will be improved. Not only do they need to look cool, but they also need to serve to improve and protect the players.

During a race, my buddy suffered an injury midway through the race due to a sneaker issue. This got me thinking about what else needs to be changed in contemporary boots.

Interview
My teammate(user)
Me(designer)
Designer: hey bro! How are you doing?
User: Good, how are you getting on in Australia?
Designer: All good, sorry to waste some of your time with this interview.
User:Haha it's okay, we're old friends. I'm glad you're redesigning my boots.
Designer:Shall we get started?
User:Sure!
Designer:At first, I was clueless when it came to choosing objects for the redesign. I know I remembered that race, the boots you wore. Then I had an idea.
User:Right! That's the game I'll never forget, even though I got injured because of my sneakers. But we still won.
Designer:It seemed to be raining that day. Can you tell me what it was like for you to wear those football boots?
User:Yes, the rain complicates the game. I felt like my sneakers were loose at the beginning of that game. It was slippery and didn't protect me after a few physical collisions with my opponents.
Designer: How?
User: Once when I was fighting with my opponent for a high ball, my boots didn't protect me when I landed on my feet, twisting my ankle a bit.
Designer:And then how did you get subbed off? Hahaha I didn't notice at the time.
User:It was bad, the sneakers didn't protect me. It also made my movements distorted. This made me end up physically exhausted and injured.
Designer:It's very unlucky.
User:Yes, and these football boots are rotten after this game.Spikes and laces are broken.
Designer:This is really bad. But even worse is that you're hurt.
User:But we won, didn't we? We're the champions.
Designer:Yes!Now think back to the game we played and tell me how you feel about it.
User:Okay, that was a pretty ordinary game. It was our first game. We were all extraordinarily nervous, and I was mentally tight all the time. But we won the game without any problems. We all scored. It was really exciting.
Designer:How did you feel at the time?
User:Very, very nervous. I feel like I can't control my feet. But also very excited to win.
Desgner:Great, thanks so much for the interview today. I will use today's interview to redesign this object. And add some of your comments about the sneakers. I'll present the design to you when it's ready.
User:Looking forward to it.
